The Band
Oasis is a Manchester, England based rock band that has sold over 70 million albums worldwide. Oasis originally formed in 1991, but was first known as “The Rain.” The original members of the group were Liam Gallagher as lead singer, Paul Arthurs on the guitar, Paul McGuin on the bass guitar, Tony McCarrol on drums, and Noel Gallagher as lead guitar and backup singer.
McGuin and Arthurs left the band in 2000 to pursue another venture, but were eventually replaced. Noel Gallagher announced his departure in August 2009, which initially meant the breakup of Oasis, but as of December 2009 the remaining members were tentatively making plans to form Oasis 2.0.
Having sold over 70 million records, Oasis has been extremely successful for over 15 years. They have 8 number one UK singles and 7 number one UK albums. Their best selling album worldwide, “What’s the Story Morning Glory,” was released in 1995. “What’s the Story Morning Glory” is one of the best selling albums in UK history and also contained Oasis’ most internationally acclaimed song, “Wonderwall”.
